Glen Warchol is continuing his long running attack on Rep. Jason Chaffetz. His latest salvo came on Saturday with this hit piece. Congressman Jason Chaffetz may be getting big tea-party pats on the back for a refusing to indulge in earmarks, but pragmatists Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett and Congressman Bob Bishop, all Republicans, say the only way to save one of the state's biggest economic engines, rocket booster builder ATK Systems, will be through earmarks. Well first off, Mr. Warchol gets two things way wrong. NO ONE SAID (in the linked to Cache Valley Daily article) that earmarks were the "only way" to save the Constellation and Ares programs. The headline (and the quote from Senator Bennett - not Hatch or Bishop) says that earmarks MAY be the only way. There is a very big difference between "is" and "may" the last time I looked. Congressman Chaffetz has already SHOWN that worthy projects CAN get through the House on their own merit with his Magna Water Project. Similar projects have gotten through on their own merit without being tagged into unrelated bills. If the Ares and Constellation projects ARE that worthy (and I personally think that they are) what is wrong with Congress passing it as a stand alone bill? Or could it be that the Senators (and Mr. Warchol) are afraid that President Obama will veto a stand alone bill. Glen Warchol has shown his bias yet again. He can't argue against Congressman Chaffetz stand on principle or on the merits of the project. The only way he can argue against Congressman Chaffetz is to try to pull a rabbit out of a non-existant hat. In other words, his only defense is a lie. |
